There are several things that I am really stressing over right now. The fact that I am about to be twenty one and have very little life direction doesn’t help. But I could use some advice on these points, so hit me with whatever you have.
1. I need something to do this summer. A job, a learning experience, and internship. My interests are photography, videography, music industry, business, and...
The other evening I had the pleasure of listening to, meeting, and photographing Savoir Adore as the played a free show in Ithaca. If you are into indie rock, I would definitely suggest picking up their album ‘In the Wooded Forest’–it is well worth it!
The video is just a taste! Get the album!
A few more photos here.
Reading The Will to Believe by William James today, I came across this passage.
How many women’s hearts are vanquished by the mere sanguine insistence of some man that they must love him! He will not consent to the hypothesis that they cannot. The desire for a certain kind of truth here brings about that special truth’s existence; and so it is in innumerable cases of other sorts. Who gains...
I think about being rich a lot. In comparison to most of the world, I am rich. I am rich in thing, worldly possessions and knowledge. It is a facet of my birth into this country.
18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.
Luke 8
But I also think of being rich in my religion and rich...
Everything you learn comes back again to act in your life.
For me it recently has been the idea of putting people first.
I find when I put people first, before my responsibilities, before my work, before desires or wants, everyone benefits.
Time should become more of a guideline that can be stretched and broken.
People should be what days are built around.
Who should you be putting first?
Today I realized there is a huge difference between talking about going to church and what goes on at church and talking about the life of Jesus. When you talk about Jesus it almost makes you sound like part of a cult. ‘Yes, I follow a guy who cast out demons and healed people, so they put him to death. But don’t worry! I believe that he rose from the dead and came back to keep doing his good...
I had an interesting day of reflection and learning. I haven’t spent this much time thinking about God in a great while and it definitely impacted how I view myself and the environment in which I live. College is a tough place to be a Christian and I can see I am partly to blame.
I wanted to share an idea that popped into my head as well as some verses from passages I read today. The idea is that...

I have been really hung up on the idea of projection and not self perception. I feel that self perception is past focused, and focusing on the past isn’t conducent towards future success or change.
How does projection happen?
I think projection happens when we take on a task or goal that is bigger than ourselves. Something that will take time to...
There is nothing more I dislike than taking on extra tasks that make my life harder. Which is great because today Lent begins! Alright I am a bit cynical because I was sort of jumped by my friends to take on a commitment for Lent rather than giving something up. But as it turns out I have decided to do both.
I decided I have been swearing too much and am going to give up swearing for Lent....
I never needed posters to decorate my walls when I had books to decorate my...
Progression is something I give a lot of thought to. Mostly in the context of the environment I am living in.
The power that a given environment has over our lives doesn’t end… It affects us throughout our lives here on earth. Healthy environments move individuals toward health. Unhealthy environments accentuate brokenness and dysfunction.
In short, the environment is reflected by those who...
My friend Garrett DeRossett just threw together a new demo track based on Kerouac’s novel, On the Road. Down in Denver is just vocals and guitar recorded as a rough version in Garageband.
I liked it so I wanted to share it with you guys and hear your opinions!
Unless he says otherwise, you can listen or download Down In Denver (MP3 Demo Version). (Right click, save as)

This post is for my mother…
Alright, it’s for everyone interested in the Ithaca Vineyard.
If you are a student in the area or looking for a church in Ithaca, please come check it out.
The video is just a quick walking tour on an off day at the church.
But I was invited to the creative planning meeting today.
It was interesting to see how ideas got...
The one reason I believe I am trapped in the rinse cycle with rap and hip-hop music is because of its future thinking.
I find this to be especially true with the Blueprint 3 album.
Jay Z’s line gets me, “It’s all about progression, loiterers should be arrested.”
I feel that we as a society are very past oriented.
Nowhere do we continuously look at the present but see the past more often...

This industry get’s me every time.
There is something so genius about the music business.
To capture three minutes and change it into something profound.
Something that of worth that people will buy.
Something of style that people will make their own.
Something that takes people’s time and changes thought.
But very similarly it causes problems.
When...
For several days I have been reminded to put people first.
It’s that ‘drop everything’ and ‘put people first’ reminder.
I thank God that this isn’t coming at a time of need, but just as a subtle nudge.
This is what I should be doing all the time.
Even if it is hard and even if it is interrupting my work.
In the grand scheme of things, people matter.
They are the ones that are going to...
doctorplease:
Yeah that’s right Carlisle. You are snowing. About time. Seeing as youve teased us with it for the past week. Being in the teens everyday and all.
I like knowing its snow at home and here at school. :)
When you grow up, do you want to be a noun or a verb?
Are you going to be come a doctor, photographer, lawyer, accountant, librarian, engineer, pilot, or musician?
I find the idea of being a noun unattractive.
It doesn’t leave room for motion.
I think being a verb would be much more fun.
When you grow up wouldn’t you rather be inspiring, teaching, learning, exploring, finding, creating,...

Why was writing invented?
To communicate ideas in a more permanent manner.
But this takes the act of reading.
Why do you read?
For escape? To learn?
I read for those tiny ideas that grow into something bigger.
The value we put on profoundness struck me the other day buying books for college.
I decided to drop my French class and take up Philosophy.
The book for French was $177, two books...
As this break draws quickly to an end I wanted to revisit an idea I learned during my month off.
Paris isn’t for changing planes, it’s for changing your outlook.
Audrey Hepburn in the film Sabrina
I found this to be an interesting quote, especially since it pertained to what I was reading.
One of the books I chose on whim was Stretching Lessons by Sue Bender.
It was an excellent read if...

I was sort of bummed today.
I have not been happy with my photography for a few days.
I am not inspired and haven’t been writing.
But anyway I made this video.
It sort of shows how I have been feeling.
Wisdom is something I put a lot of thought towards.
Acquiring it mostly.
The Bible talks about wisdom a lot; especially in Proverbs.
It spells out how to get it and the reward for having it.
10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For through me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
Proverbs 9

Reviewing some notes in a Moleskin, I came across this thought I scribbled down.
Ideas about a person are not formed until they reach a certain age or place in life. At this moment their personality is formed as a collective idea from society. How they got this personality is a mystery. Why certain personality types are not stopped or corrected is also a quandary. Loud and boisterous or quiet...
Reading Lamentations 3 today, I was struck by the forwardness of the author.
The grief, anger, hate, and challenge that was being presented towards God!
Ways of feeling that I couldn’t even begin to describe.
He has made my teeth grind on gravel, and made me cower in ashes; my soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is; so I say, “Gone is my glory, and all that I had hoped...
I hate her.
mandaspanties:
I’m so stuck on it.
If I hadn’t been nosy, I probably wouldn’t have found out.
Why was I nosy?
Because for some stupid reason, I still care about you.
To be blunt, I hate her. I hate everything about her. It’s not even envy.
I hate her hair. I hate her stupid, fake smile. I hate how she talks. I hate how she laughs. I hate her music. I hate her small, gross hands. I hate how...
How old would you be if you didn’t know how old...
There would be years of me being 80 with the weight of the world. Months of me being 40 struggling with midlife. Weeks of me being a new father, 28 to 34. Days of me being 20 and reckless. Hours of being 17 and fearless. Minutes of me being 5 and happy. Seconds of bliss transcending age
I dislike my photography.
I feel that it is very heavy handed and dark.
Maybe it is a reflection on myself.
I feel like it is rushed and lacks joy.
Flippant.
How can you take light photos, if you yourself aren’t light?
A friend.
Perhaps this is a bit like my life.
I feel as if I have been not permanent for as long as I can remember.
I don’t take the time to spread out or grow into my...
The Pepsi Refresh Project gives out grants.
I just applied to do a project this summer with my two friends Jay Salbert and Mathea Millman.
We would be traveling the country conducting interviews with people who have achieved personal success.
The idea is to share their wisdom and motivation with others seeking self discovery.
To get the grant, we will need your vote on February 1st.
It...
I read today that your first experience with anything defines you.
What they say is true, first impressions matter.
It’s psychologic.
A first kiss, learning experience, relationship.
It sets the tone for the rest of your life.
Your mind judges and tries to conform repeat experiences with the first experience.
This is called transference.
Transference is hard to break.
Especially if you...
You mean I can actually figure out how to see who follows me on Tumblr now?
Thanks. Finally.
What is my idea of church?
A question that was asked of me in a late night conversation I was enjoying.
Well it depends on what you believe.
For me a Christian church isn’t the building.
It’s a scaffolding built around worship (singing) and scripture (a message).
But my idea of church is far beyond that.
You can add things to the scaffolding.
Fellowship, growth groups, volunteering,...
Recall several days ago that I posted this advertisement for Johnnie Walker.
I posted it as inspiration to make shorts.
There must be a trend.
Beautifully done, cinematographic advertisement shorts are surfacing.
The one I just posted is for Prada perfume.
I love how it is short.
I love how they introduce a character based on movement like Johnnie Walker.
They empower her, but restrain...
I have a fascination with rural America.
I would love to make a documentary about it.
Live and work on a farm for awhile.
Do the audio and video work to capture the daily happenings.
But also work in the fields and build things.
Use my hands.
I think this is because I like to see progress.
I like to feel the work I’ve done during the day in my body.
I think farm work would teach me...
I saw this image and thought, ‘Maybe this shouldn’t be my weekend OR my year.’
Not in the sense that it shouldn’t go well.
But in the sense that it shouldn’t be about me.
What do I already have planned for me this year?
I am in college studying a major I am interested in.
I am taking classes that I want to take.
I am planning to study in LA to better my career path.
I am trying to get an...
